Fresh off a successful awards season thanks to The Favourite, Fox Searchlight is now lining up its next set of projects. One is a remake of the 1991 Julia Roberts hit Sleeping With The Enemy, which the studio is currently preparing with Nia Costa as writer-director.
The film is being dubbed a “reimagining”, but will once again be based on Nancy Price‘s 1987 novel of the same name. The story revolves around a woman trying to escape her abusive husband. The 1991 film was made at the height of Roberts’ fame, and made an impressive $175 million from a $20 million budget.
The other major project in development at the studio is a feature adaptation of James Corden‘s one-man stage play, One Man, Two Guvnors. The play is a Tony Award-winner and was performed around the world. Oli Refson, writer-director of the long-running BBC comedy series Uncle, is penning the film adaptation.
The play is a fast-paced farce revolving around the mixed fortunes of a down-on-his-luck man who finds himself employed by two very different bosses, one of whom is a notorious gangster. No word yet on whether Corden will be returning for the film adaptation.
Both of these projects are part of a new producing deal between Fox Searchlight and producer Damian Jones. He’s been behind projects such as Goodbye Christopher Robin and The Iron Lady. He said in a statement:
