Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, Keke Palmer, Mercedes Ruehl and Julia Stiles have joined Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu‘s upcoming movie called Hustlers, which starts filming this month in New York City. It is based on a New York Magazine article from 2016 that “follows a crew of savvy former strip club employees who band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.”
In the movie, the former strip club employees join together and devise a plan to steal tens of thousands of dollars from their wealthy clientele. The story shines a light on how the financial crisis trickled down from the Wall Street businessmen to the dancers they had patronized. Lorene Scafaria, who wrote Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, wrote and will direct the project.
This will mark Cardi B’s movie debut and, considering her background, it’s a very fitting first role. Before Cardi’s rise to stardom, she worked as a stripper in New York City, then she became a notable Instagram personality and landed a role in reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York. “Just because somebody was a stripper don’t mean they don’t have no brain,” she told Cosmopolitan in her April 2018 cover story.
Crazy Rich Asians‘ Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez were already listed to work on the film, and now will take part with an emphatically enhanced cast. Lopez is also a producer on the film.
