Warners Bros Studios has closed the deal with Robert Pattinson to star as the new Batman, in the upcoming movie, titled The Batman, which will be direct by Matt Reeves (Planet Of Apes), as reported by Variety.
Early buzz about the casting sent the cinematic world crazt, as it was revealed that Pattinson was actually on a shortlist alongside actor Nicholas Hoult for the role. Now, it seems, Pattinson is sealing the deal. As The Wrap notes, Reeves has described his film as a “defining” and “very personal” story about the superhero, and will not be yet another origin story about the Dark Knight.
Pattinson will join a long list of actors who have taken the role of the vigilante such as Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Adam West.
The actor just earned praise for his recent role in the Robert Eggers’ film The Lighthouse, which debuted at Cannes Film Festival last month. Pattinson will also be in Netflix’s period drama The King alongside Timothéé Chamalet and Lily-Rose Depp, and he also has a significant role in the most anticipated movie from director Christopher Nolan, Tenet.
The Batman is due for release on June 25, 2021. The production will start next year according to the Wrap.
