Denis Villeneuve is going all in on the ‘Dune’ franchise as Legendary Television has confirmed the Blade Runner 2049 director will be the executive producer of a new television series titled Dune: The Sisterhood.
The show will air exclusively on WarnerMedia’s new streaming service. The show follows in the footsteps of Villeneuve’s Dune film adaptation, which is currently in production and set for a 2020 release.
According to Variety, Dune: The Sisterhood will explore the world of Frank Herbert’s landmark 1965 science-fiction novel through the eyes of the Bene Gesserit, a mysterious order of women who have extraordinary abilities. Villeneuve is set to direct the pilot of the series, which will be written by his Dune movie co-screenwriter Jon Spaihts.
The show will begin production after Villeneuve ends his film adaptation of Herbert’s novel. The Dune movie stars Timothée Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, and David Dastmalchian.
Dastmalchian, Denis Villeneuve’s faithful actor, shared about the film in a recent interview, “The way Denis has talked about the film and what I’ve seen, it’s absolutely true to and in honour of everything that Frank put into the novel. Denis is just so fearless, man. He makes choices and then he goes into the places that we need right now as audiences”.
The film will open worldwide on November 20, 2020.
