First Trailer For Judy Garland Biopic ‘Judy’ Arrives | Film Trailer

The first full trailer has arrived for the upcoming Judy Garland biopic, Judy. Renee Zellweger stars as the showbiz legend, and the film charts her attempts to win over crowds in London while battling with addiction and depression.

Garland’s life was a tragic one. Her natural talent was never truly allowed to shine over a long career, as she was never able to break free of her addictions or the toxicity of Hollywood. Studios would give her drugs so that she could work the long hours required on movies like The Wizard of Oz, and her career always has a “what if?” hanging over it.

Whether the film will actually dive deep into these issues is debatable. There’s been a rash of biopics recently that have been very by-the-numbers, solely intended to be a nostalgic dopamine rush and little more. The Judy trailer hints at the possibility that it will actually examine Garland’s problems and the system around her that never reached out a hand.

Either way, Zellweger looks to be putting in a hell of a performance, even just going by the trailer. Hollywood loves it when stars play icons, so expect her to be in the running for plenty of awards later this year.

Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock, Rufus Sewell, and Michael Gambon also star, while longtime theatre director Rupert Goold is directing. Judy opens Friday, September 27.
