Blood Orange is scoring a new film by Lena Waithe, titled Queen & Slim.
Described as a “modern day Bonnie and Clyde”, the film follows a young couple played by Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya and newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith on a first date gone wrong.
After Kaluuya’s character shoots and kills a police officer, played by Sturgill Simpson, in self-defence, the incident is caught on a dashboard camera and goes viral across the country, forcing Queen and Slim to go on the run.
The film’s ensemble cast also includes Chloë Sevigny, Pose star Indya Moore, Fargo’s Bokeem Woodbine and Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea.
It will be Dev Hynes’ latest work from Blood Orange since his Angel’s Pulse mixtape, released in July.
He announced the news on Instagram and also shared a clip from the film.

Queen and Slim first debuted at CinemaCon this spring, and a trailer premiered during the BET Awards in June.
It’s said to be a “powerful, consciousness-raising love story that confronts the staggering human toll of racism and the life-shattering price of violence”.
Waithe is an Emmy Award-winning producer, writer and actor who has starred in much-loved TV shows and films, including Master of None, Dear White People, Transparent and Westworld.
It’s also the directorial debut of Melina Matsoukas, who previously worked on Beyoncé’s “Formation” video.
Queen & Slim will be released in the UK on January 31, 2020.
