Edward Norton has shared the first trailer for Motherless Brooklyn. It’s been almost 20 years since he released his first film, and he has taken almost the same time to adapt this film from the novel of the same name by Jonathan Lethem.
The 1999 neo-noir novel has been largely acclaimed, and Norton confessed he has been working on this adaptation since its publication. Lethem’s novel is a complex character study of a detective who has Tourette Syndrome, with three-time Oscar Award nominee Edward Norton producing, directing, writing and starring in the movie adaptation.
The film synopsis reads, “Set against the backdrop of 1950s New York, Motherless Brooklyn follows Lionel Essrog (Edward Norton), a lonely private detective living with Tourette Syndrome, as he ventures to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna (Bruce Willis)”.
It has also assembled an impressive cast to join Edward Norton, including Bruce Willis, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Bobby Cannavale, Cherry Jones, Michael Kenneth Williams, Leslie Mann, Robert Ray Wisdom, Fisher Stevens, Willem Dafoe and Alec Baldwin, among others.
Following its premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and at the 2019 New York Film Festival, Motherless Brooklyn will be released in theatres on November 1. In the meantime, watch the trailer below.
