French singer and songwriter Marina Kaye has discovered her sinful alter ego on her sultry new single “Twisted”. Accompanied by the macabre new visual, co-directed by Julien Hosmalin and Marina herself, the track explores Marina’s unhinged and twisted, musical nature.
Undoubtedly an experienced head on the shoulders of a young artist, Marina was a gifted performer from a young age. She began performing on stage at the tender age of 13. Her vocal talents and undeniable stage presence led to a record deal with TGIT music where she went on to record and release her debut album, Fearless, through Universal’s Capitol Music.
Aptly named, the release went on to top the charts in France, before being certified double platinum. Not one to neglect her passion for performing, Marina has also supported the likes of Thirty Seconds To Mars, Florent Pagny and Lindsey Sterling. She’s played more than a hundred headline shows, most of which as a teenager.
It’s this wealth of experience, the good times and the scars that have provided the inspiration for her upcoming album. There’s an edge to her latest project, a devilish ingenuity in her lyrical content that reflects a new devil may care attitude to her songwriting. Accompanying the new single comes a powerful video, inspired by an experience Marina had in a psychiatrist’s office.
According to Marina, “the guy didn’t believe a word I told him and looked at me like I was a freak. I wanted to use this experience, and turn the tables for this music video”.
The whole project is simple and effective in its delivery, making a powerful statement of what’s to come from one of today’s most exciting artists. An artist with limitless potential, primed to be discovered by a global audience.
On the new track, Marina states, “Twisted is an extremely deep and personal song for me. I’ve always felt like there was something a bit weird about me. I feel like I have some twisted thoughts in my mind, but that’s no bad thing. In fact I’m proud of it now because it makes me who I am”.
