At the age of 14 he was already on the road, traveling up and down the east coast with his rock and roll band McLovins. And it was such a good start. With his band, he shared the stage with artist such as Blink-182, Jack White and BB King.
In 2010, Rolling Stone described him as “having the ability to harness the musical ferocity of Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool and Stewart Copeland before being able to legally drive a car”.
His band became successful, recorded an LP in 2015 and performed in major festival like Bunbury in Cincinnati with Foster The People, Chainsmokers and Post Malone.
Individually, Jake has written dozens of songs for artist likes Ed Sheeran and Leon Bridges.
And finally, in 2019 he decided to begin his solo career. He flew to Los Angeles and met with producer Andy Seltzer (Maggie Rodgers, Chelsea Cutler) to create his new project titled Jack Huffman Is The Layover, and “Meet Me In The Middle” is one of the tracks from the The Layover EP, released on October 15.
As Jake describes it, the track “was conceived on a journey to The Fonda Theatre for a benefit concert. After a 31 hour layover, sleep deprived and delusional, I landed in LA with only hours to spare until load in. The night escalated into a dream like reality, befriending members of Metallica, Eagles of Death Metal, and David Hasselhoff. Post show, I found myself on an empty beach feeling deep nostalgia and like my legs were knocked out beneath me“.
We can feel his rock roots mix with pop elements on this song, the lyrics are well worked and will surely stay in mind, as he sings, “Why can’t you meet me in the middle baby / Just give me something so I don’t love you“. Listen below:
