BLACKWAVE is a hip-hop duo consisting of rapper Jay Atohoun and singer-producer Willen Ardui. They started producing music in 2017 in an open minded approach of hip-hop. They like to blend different influences like soul, jazz and pop.
They won the Music Moves Europe Talent Award for Best Hip Hop/Rap Artist 2019, and more recently, they were nominated for the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards in the ‘Best Belgian Act’ category.
BLACKWAVE has started touring around Europe, and it’s while performing in front of 30,000 people at the PukkelpopMusic Festival, that they have announced their debut album.
ARE WE STILL DREAMING? is due to be released on November 8. It features artist and producers from around the globe including Benny Sings (NL); Winston Surfshirt (AUS); Wesley Franklin (USA); David Ngyah (BE); Caleborate (USA); Pell (USA); K1D (BE); Konteks (USA) and many more.
All of these features illustrates their production pattern, with recoveries in a variety of different studios in cities like Antwerp, Brussels, Berlin, Amsterdam, Los Angeles and London…
In the beginning, they wanted to “play around with the idea of [them] escaping earth and discovering new worlds in space and learning about ourselves in the process. But, as well as recording were added, they have turned into a self-portrait of two young adults searching for themselves in an ever changing world”.
The title meaning is “a sense of disbelieve of what is happening around us and the success that we experience feels like a dream”.
In the meantime, the duo has released a track from their upcoming album titled “Swich”.
