Los Angeles sibling group HAIM are, according to Verve Forecast, set to be featured on a new project titled Hanukkah+. Their contribution to the upcoming album will be a cover of Leonard Cohen’s song “If It Be Your Will” from Cohen’s 1984 album Various Positions.
On this occasion, the three sisters will honour the famous singer-songwriter as part of a project which has taken inspiration from by Yo La Tengo’s annual Hanukkah concerts. Indeed the american indie rock band will be involved in the forthcoming album too.
As they revealed in a statement: “When our old friend Randy Poster asked us to contribute to an album of Hanukkah songs he was putting together, we were kind of stumped. As non-practicing Jews (and non-Jews), truthfully the holiday has little meaning for us (that’s the meta joke behind Yo La Tengo’s Hanukkah shows), but we were open to inspiration.”
Moreover, the likes of Flaming Lips, Jack Black, Holy Ghost!’s Alex Frankel, and others will be participating in this collaboration. They all wrote and recorded original songs for the album alongside with some classics. The record has been produced by Randall Poster and titled Hanukkah+, comes out digitally on November 22. A vinyl release will follow on December 13.
