The alt-folk band Sci-Fi Romance has recently released their cover of “When The Levee Breaks”, which is included in their upcoming new EP The Rain Becomes A River, due out May, 8.
Formed in 2010, Sci-Fi Romance is a folk band from Los Angeles led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Vance Kotrla. The group includes musicians Jody Stark on cello, Johnnie Kotrla on bass and Kurt Bloom on drums among other collaborators and over the years Sci-Fi Romance has featured many notable artists, including opera soprano Kristin Vogel.
Their upcoming EP The Rain Becomes A River will include engaging tracks focusing on seeking peace amidst disaster, and the first single “When The Levee Breaks” is a perfect example as the track came to Kotrla when Hurricane Harvey hit his hometown of Houston in 2017.
With their driving version of “When The Levee Breaks”, Sci-Fi Romance gave a new dark and loud form to the classic track from Led Zeppelin, originally recorded as a country blues song by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. Your mind will be captured by the haunting folk beats and the captivating instrumental of this great release so make sure you do not miss it!
