Edgar Wright‘s Last Night In Soho is the latest big-name film forced to move its original release due to the coronavirus pandemic. Wright himself confirmed that due to the COVID-19 shutdown, he was unable to complete the film, and thus Focus Features have pushed the release date back. Previously set for a September release, the film will now arrive on April 23, 2021.
Haunted by someone else’s past, but we’ll see you in the future… It’s true, #LastNightInSoho is not quite finished yet due to Covid 19. But, I'm excited for you all to experience it, at a big screen near you, on April 23, 2021. @LastNightInSoho @FocusFeatures @universaluk pic.twitter.com/zmPnAZICkb

That slots the movie right in between two massive blockbusters. Fast & Furious 9 will arrive the week before, and the week after will mark the release of Marvel’s Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. Focus Features is probably counting on Last Night In Soho – an original psychological thriller – to be counter-programming against two giant franchises.
We don’t know too much about the film. Wright co-wrote it with Oscar-nominated 1917 co-writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and the movie is partially set in the 1960s in London. It also may or may not involve time travel, and Wright has cited Don’t Look Now as a major influence.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie star in the film, with Matt Smith, Michael Ajao, Terence Stamp, and Rita Tushingham in supporting roles.
So yes, another movie worth getting excited about has been delayed. We’ll see if Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet – still holding onto its Friday, July 17 release – does indeed get to be the first huge film to be released if cinemas re-open in time, or whether that will have to be pushed back too. The only bright side is that 2021 is going to be a jam-packed movie year.
