David Leitch has quickly become a go-to name in action filmmaking. He’s already directed instalments in some big action franchises – Deadpool 2 and Hobbs & Shaw – co-directed the original John Wick alongside Chad Stahelski, and also helmed the Charlize Theron-led Atomic Blonde.
Unsurprisingly, he’s got another film in the genre lined up. This one’s called Bullet Train.
The film is based on the popular Japanese manga. Zak Olkewicz (Fear Street) will write the script. Leitch will also produce the film alongside another popular name in action filmmaking, Antoine Fuqua.
Bullet Train revolves around a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo. The project has been naturally been compared to Speed, but also the 2014 Liam Neeson action film Non-Stop, which is set on a plane.
Either way, Leitch should be a great fit to helm this. His creative use of action tropes and overseeing of impressive stunts and choreography will fit nicely within a race-against-time actioner. Now we’ll just wait and see who signs on for the lead role, which is the kind of action-hero character many actors in Hollywood love to sink their teeth into.
