Summer’s over and Christmas is only two months away. And of course there will be new Christmas movies this season! For example Kristen Stewart is set to star beside Mackenzie Davis in the new Christmas rom-com Happiest Season, coming to theaters in the US on November 20, and on November 27 in the UK.
Kristen and Mackenzie Davis, who is well-known for his previous role in Black Mirror, play a lesbian couple dealing with the stress of the holidays around Christmas. The movie will be a classic Christmas movie, but unlike other rom-coms, they’ve put a gay couple in the main focus.
“I’m a huge fan of Christmas movies, but I had never seen my story represented,” says director, co-writer and Veep actress Clea DuVall. “Happiest Season felt like a great opportunity to tell a universal story from a new perspective.“.
“I think I’ve wished to see a gay Christmas rom-com my whole life. I’m so happy and proud of Clea for bringing this into the world“, Stewart points out to People Magazine.
In the movie, Stewart’s character Abby wants to propose to her girlfriends Harper, but discovers at a family’s annual holiday party that Harper hasn’t come out yet to her conservative parents. For first pictures of the upcoming movie, take a look at the Instagram post below.
