This year’s virtual Emmy Awards ceremony was quite unprecedented, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the Staples Center of Los Angeles was awfully empty, Jimmy Kimmel managed to turn a virtual show into a pleasant evening for the viewers and nominees.
Only a few stars were present in person at the ceremony, including Jennifer Aniston, who appeared in an elegant black silk gown, before attending a Friends reunion home. Laverne Cox was another of the few stars who appeared live to present an award, wearing a black cutout Kim Kassas Couture jumpsuit.
The great majority of the “guests” were zooming in from their home. And even if the Emmys’ dress code was asking nominees to “come as you are, but make an effort”, they were prompt to display their finest outfits. The 2020 Emmy Awards didn’t disappoint, and while some stars stayed in their classy pyjamas, others showed themselves in full red-carpet attire.
Among the most stunning outfits, Zendaya sported a Christopher John Rogers dress with a shapely skirt, and then picked up the award for best actress in a drama series in a gorgeous custom Giorgio Armani look. Tracee Ellis Ross impressed too, appearing on her garden red-carpet in a golden ruffled Alexandre Vauthier gown, also wearing vintage Tiffany & Co. jewelry and Jimmy Choo heels.
Some celebrities also cozied up, like Jameela Jamil, who was spotted wearing white pyjamas with a sequin dressing gown.
We could even witness some celebrities displaying committed outfits, like Sandra Oh and her purple-blue jacket and mask reading “Black Lives Matter” in Korean. Though the 8-times Emmy-nominee didn’t manage to finally take home an award, she made quite an impression at the 2020 ceremony.
