Mindy Kaling To Star In HBO Max Adaptation Of ‘Good In Bed’ | Film News

Mindy Kaling has signed on to produce and star in an adaptation of Jennifer Weiner‘s novel Good In Bed for HBO Max. Liz Sarnoff (Barry) will pen the script of the novel which spent five years on the New York Times Bestseller List and has sold over 11 million copies.

The book revolves around an up-and-coming journalist in Philadelphia who’s grappling with shaky self-esteem, a newly out-of-the-closet mother, an absent father, and a man who broke her heart. She gets some help from her fairy godmother best friend and is able to weather public humiliation, find true love and learn to accept herself and her life in its “messy, imperfect glory”.

The project is intended to be a film even though most of Kaling’s career, at least until recently, has been on the smaller screen. She broke out as a supporting character on The Office where she was also a writer, before going on to star in her own sitcom, The Mindy Project.

She was also the co-creator and writer of Hulu’s Four Weddings And A Funeral TV adaptation and co-created and wrote Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, which was recently renewed for a second season.

On the film side of things, she recently wrote and starred in Late Night alongside Emma Thompson, while she also has an untitled wedding comedy in the works with Priyanka Chopra at Universal.

This project sounds like a perfect fit for Kaling’s bubbly yet acerbic style. HBO Max continues to attach themselves to popular creators as they seek to build their streaming service to something that can survive in the cut-throat streaming wars.
