Filmmaking team Radio Silence have already made well-liked horror film Ready Or Not, and they used their success there to secure the directing gig for Scream 5 (annoyingly just called Scream). But they’re not done there. They team has another horror film in the works titled Reunion, which is being developed at MGM.
Radio Silence – Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella – will direct and produce a screenplay written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, who also wrote Ready Or Not.
The film revolves around a group of jaded old friends who re-team for a much-dreaded high school reunion, when they’re suddenly thrust into the task of saving the world when a shape-shifting creature arrives.
That sounds similar to what most people experience at their high school reunion, so this should be pretty relatable! This sounds like it could be a good mix of creature feature + the social anxiety inherent at these sorts of events.
In many ways this mirrors what Radio Silence did with Ready Or Not, which focused on a mundane but agonising task – meeting your partner’s parents – and turning it into something even worse. In that case, a bloodthirsty hunting ritual in the name of Satan. You know, the usual.
The Radio Silence trio are obviously very quickly becoming hot commodities in the genre sphere. If the new Scream hits, they will probably get even more opportunities to flex their horror muscles. That film is currently due to arrive in cinemas on January 14, 2022.
