Tina Fey & Jon Hamm To Star In John Slattery’s Dark Comedy ‘Maggie Moore(s)’ | Film News

It’s a reunion of popular mid-to-late 2000s American TV. Tina Fey and Jon Hamm, who appeared together in seven 30 Rock episodes, are re-teaming for a dark comedy from John Slattery, who previously worked with Hamm on Mad Men and appeared alongside Fey on Amazon’s Modern Love.

So what project led to this big reunion? The film is titled Maggie Moore(s), and follows the chief of police in a quiet Arizona town who is suddenly faced with the back-to-back murders of two women with the same name.

It’s unclear right now whether Hamm will play the cop or the villain, but the cop strikes up a romance with Fey’s lonely neighbour, and considering the chemistry the two actors showed together previously on 30 Rock, it would make sense to pair them together again.

Paul Bernbaum (Hollywoodland) has written the script, and Contentious Media is financing the film. Slattery will produce alongside Cary Woods (Scream) and Vincent Newman (We’re the Millers). Slattery may not be best known for his work behind the camera but he has previously directed 2014 drama God’s Pocket and multiple episodes of Mad Men and, more recently, Netflix’s Love.

Maggie Moore(s) sounds a little like recent dark comedy The Wolf Of Snow Hollow, in which an out of his depth police chief with a god complex is tasked with solving a series of grisly murders. That film was successfully able to mix its humour with an intriguing mystery and commentary on the inherent toxicity and prejudice of police forces. We’ll see if Maggie Moore(s) can pull off something similar.

Fey just got done voicing one of the leads in Pixar’s Soul, and she’s returning to host the Golden Globes this Sunday alongside best pal Amy Poehler. Hamm is coming off romance Wild Mountain Thyme alongside Emily Blunt, and he’ll next be seen opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick.
