Travis Scott Opens Up To i-D Magazine About Upcoming ‘Utopia’ Album | Music News

Travis Scott revealed the name of his forthcoming album Utopia last summer but has stayed pretty tight-lipped on any other detail since then, as he usually does when creating an album.

However, British magazine i-D revealed Scott as the first cover star of its Spring issue, with photography by Spike Jonze of the rap artist at his home in Los Angeles. In the interview, he opens up about living life in quarantine, fatherhood, working on new music and more.

Speaking about the process for his fourth album, Scott said “Ahh man, you know, it’s so crazy. I never tell people this, and I’m probably going to keep it a secret still, but I’m working with some new people and I’m just trying to expand the sound. I’ve been making beats again, rapping on my own beats, just putting everything together and trying to grow it really.

That’s been one of the most fun things about working on this album. I’m evolving, collaborating with new people, delivering a whole new sound, a whole new range”. When asked about Utopia’s release date, Scott said the project is “Coming soon. You can bet that”.

Scott made clear he attaches a great importance to not repeating himself with his music, and that “each album is like a saga” for him. According to the rapper, the pandemic has allowed him to be more productive and focus on the music as his mobility was severely reduced by the restrictions to travel and go for shows.

“I got the studio at home and I have the peace to record all day, you know? Obviously like, you lose a little bit by not being able to travel and, you know, just see the earth”.

Asked if he is feeling any pressure about Utopia being the follow-up to the stratospheric success of 2018’s Astroworld, Scott replied “There’s so much more ground I can cover, and I want to cover it, and I love the challenge of it. I want to make a f***ing new sound. I might spend days banging my head against a wall trying to figure it out, but once I do it, it’s like ultimate ecstasy.”

FRANCHISE” was the last song we heard from Travis Scott, featuring M.I.A. and Young Thug.
