In what will not be surprising in the least to those who know him, Steven Soderbergh has another movie in the works. The prolific director spent 2019 making two movies for Netflix, before signing a new deal with HBO Max and releasing Let Them All Talk late last year, and having another movie in the works as well.
But that’s not enough for a filmmaking junkie like Soderbergh, so he’s signed on to another project. He will direct New Line Cinema’s KIMI, which will star Zoe Kravitz and debut exclusively on HBO Max.
The film revolves around an agoraphobic tech worker who discovers recorded evidence of a violent crime during an ordinary data stream review. She tries reporting it up the chain of command at her company, but is met with resistance and bureaucracy. She realises that in order to get involved, she will have to do the thing she fears the most — leave her apartment.
Sounds good! Soderbergh often excels at these tight, low-budget thrillers. Think Unsane, The Underneath and Haywire. KIMI will probably be another great addition to this mini genre Soderbergh continues to thrive in.
As mentioned, the director also has another HBO Max project in the works. That one is another thriller titled No Sudden Moves, and boasts an impressive cast including Don Cheadle, Benicio Del Toro, Amy Seimetz, Jon Hamm, Ray Liotta, Kieran Culkin, Brendan Fraser, Bill Duke, and Julia Fox. Soderbergh has written the screenplay with Men In Black writer Ed Solomon.
Kravitz is currently filming Matt Reeves‘ The Batman, where she will play Selina Kyle/Catwoman. That film is currently scheduled to hit cinemas March 4, 2022.
