Universal Music Group (UMG) has just announced a change in their label Motown Records regarding the direction, promoting Ethiopia Habtemariam to chairman and CEO of the label.
She has been working as the President of Motown for the past six years, since 2014, and in her new role, Ethiopia will be working more closely with the UMG chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge. In addition to the promotion, UMG will give the label bigger independence regarding its creative and commercial services.
That way the label, under Ethiopia’s new direction, will advance in artistic, social, and entrepreneurial empowerment. With Ethiopia, the label Motown will continue its artist development and dynamic partnerships, like with the one with Atlanta-based Quality Control Music (QC).
These sorts of partnerships have had great results, and if we continue on the QC example, this label has been at the helm for big stars like Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, and many more.
Speaking about the announcement, UMG CEO Grainge showed off his confidence in Ethiopia leading this label, adding that, “Motown is such an important voice and, […] Motown’s resurgence and powerful partnerships under Ethiopia’s leadership has advanced the label’s legacy as home to some of today’s biggest hitmakers and most meaningful voices in music“.
The key person of the announcement also gave a little speech, with Ethiopia saying, “It’s an incredible honor to represent and define what Motown is today. […] I’d like to thank Lucian for his constant support and guidance over the years; my Motown team for all they have done and continue to do; […] and to Mr. Berry Gordy, for his faith in me to carry on his legacy“.
Congratulations Ethiopia on the promotion and we wish you all the best for the future of this label that continues to give us great artists for the music industry.
