iHeartMedia and Fox have announced the nominations for the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards. This year, the ceremony will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on May 27 as well as on iHeartMedia radio stations and the iHeartRadio app.
Celebrating its eighth year, the iHeartRadio Music Awards honour the most listened-to artists and songs on iHeartRadio stations and the app in 2020, with nominations decided as a result of consumer data including streaming, album sales, song sales and radio airplay.
There are also several categories created for listeners to vote for the winners including ‘Best Fan Army’, ‘Best Lyrics’, ‘Best Cover Song’, ‘Best Video’, ‘Social Star Award’ and ‘Favorite Video Choreography’. A new category has also been created this year, following the success of the TikTok app, the first ever ‘TikTok Bop of the Year’ award.
The Weeknd leads this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards as the most nominated artists with no less than eight nominations, including the much-hyped ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Male Artist of the Year’ categories, a great feat for the singer after the Grammy Award snob and his boycott.
Not too far behind The Weeknd, the rapper Roddy Ricch also makes history in the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards, with seven awards nominations: ‘Song of the Year’ with “Rockstar”, ‘Male Artist of the Year’, ‘Hip-Hop Artist of the Year’, ‘New Hip-Hop Artist of the Year’ and three nods in the ‘Hip-Hop Song of the Year’ category for “Rockstar” and his own hits “The Box” and “High Fashion”.
Voting began on April 7 and will close on May 19 at 11.59pm (Eastern US Time) for all categories. The public can vote on Twitter using the appropriate category and nominee hashtags or by visiting the event website iHeartRadio.com/awards.
