Successful actress Natalie Portman has signed on to star in the upcoming HBO film The Days of Abandonment, the actress will also serve as executive producer.
The HBO project is currently in pre-production and is based on the best-selling novel by Elena Ferrante, which was previously adapted into an Italian film in 2006.
This time for the HBO film, Maggie Betts will write and direct the film, and Sophia Mas will also be executive producer alongside Natalie Portman, under the MountainA production banner.
Portman will play Tess, a woman who has given up her dreams for a stable family life, but then her husband leaves her and her world is turned upside down. The film will revolve around a woman in crisis, “that confronts the norms of motherhood and female identity as Tess traverses the darkest reaches of her own psyche”, per the film’s logline.
HBO has not given any information on the release date of the film at the moment, but we do know that Natalie Portman is busy shooting for Apple TV. Indeed, this announcement comes on the heels of Portman announcing her role in an Apple series based on the novel Lady In The Lake by Laura Lippman and also starring Lupita Nyong’o.
