The young actress and singer Rachel Zegler has landed the role of Snow White in the live action remake to be directed by Mark Webb.
Snow White, the first Disney Princess, will have her own live action film in the form of a musical. Announced two years ago, the project seems to be progressing well as Disney has just announced the name of the interpreter of the heroine created in 1936 by Walt Disney and David Hand.
It is Rachel Zegler who will play the Princess with “hair as black as ebony, skin as white as snow and lips as red as a bloodstain“.
Still unknown to the public, the 20-year-old actress and singer will also be starring in Steven Spielberg‘s remake of West Side Story, which arrives on December 8, and is currently shooting Shazam! Fury of the Gods in an undisclosed role.
Deadline revealed that director Marc Webb and studio executives were impressed with her auditions and early footage of her performance as Maria in the West Side Story musical. In a statement, the filmmaker said, “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are only a small part of her gifts. Her strength, intelligence and optimism will be integral to the rediscovery of this classic Disney fairy tale”.
Snow White joins the list of Disney classics getting a live-action adaptation after Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Mulan, Cruella and soon The Little Mermaid.
