“Not The Same” is the vibrant new single from Pennsylvania indie rock band Tucked In and the first taste of their upcoming sophomore EP titled Sunbathing.
The heartbreak-themed track is driven by lead singer Gunnar Flinchum, who draws listeners in from the very start with the first line, “Living is hard, loving is harder”, and the song’s funky pop chorus and throwback samples, with reference to influences from the likes of Vulfpeck and Lake Street Dive. As the band put it, “Not The Same” is three minutes and twenty seconds of a good time, a hard time and a fun time.
Tucked In is helmed by vocalist Gunnar Flinchum and guitarist Shae Ferguson, who formed the band in Brooklyn in New York, before adding bassist Evan Bakker, drummer Connor Lord and pianist/producer Andrew Holzberger to create a more collaborative project, the output of which can be heard on their debut EP ELK.
Now based in Pennsylvania, the band are returning back to the New York City roots on January 7, 2022 for a live performance at the Bowery Ballroom, while also planning their next offering “Sunbathing On The Pavement”, as they continue to put the finishing touches to their sophomore EP, which the band have described as “vibrant instrumentation, bright melodies and all around positive vibes”.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Not The Same”, Tucked In say, “‘Not The Same’ was originally written as an acoustic song, but when we got in the studio the song grew from a ballad to an absolute jam. We had so much fun recording this song and have even more fun playing it live!”
