Chris Evans In Talks To Play Gene Kelly

Chris Evans is in talks to play legendary actor Gene Kelly in a film produced by John Logan. The currently untitled film is reportedly based on Evans’ own original idea in which a 12-year-old boy who works on the MGM Lot in the 1950s finds an imaginary friend in Kelly while working on his newest film.

A studio is not yet attached, but Evans is set to produce the project alongside Logan, who has produced big films such as Skyfall, The Aviator, and Alien: Covenant, and is also penning the script himself.

Rian Johnson, who Evans previously worked with on Knives Out, will also produce alongside Ram Bergman through their company T-Street Productions, as will Mark Kassen.

Little else is known about the project right now, but Evans’ involvement – and Logan’s to a lesser extent – should have plenty of studios interested.

Evans has a big 2022 ahead of him, voicing the title character in Disney’s animated feature Lightyear, the origin story for the fictional human character of Buzz Lightyear who inspired the toy within the Toy Story universe (really), and is re-teaming with Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo for huge Netflix blockbuster The Gray Man alongside Ryan Gosling.

The Gene Kelly film is still in the very earliest stages of development, so there will likely be more news concerning it as it finds a studio and hires a director.
