‘Pig’ Director Michael Sarnoski To Helm ‘A Quiet Place’ Spinoff

Paramount Pictures has found a replacement for director Jeff Nichols on their in-development A Quiet Place spinoff. Michael Sarnoski, who last year directed the acclaimed Nicolas Cage film Pig, has signed on to helm the film after Nichols’ amicable departure from the project.

Reportedly, John Krasinski – who wrote and directed the first two A Quiet Place films – was blown away by Sarnoski’s work on Pig, and the director was initially on the shortlist for the spinoff anyway. Nichols parted from the project last year as he was seeking to work on an unnamed sci-fi project, also for Paramount.

Nichols had also been developing the script for the spinoff, but it’s not yet known whether it will be used under Sarnoski, or whether his writing will be replaced as well. Very little is actually known about the film other than the fact that it will be a spinoff that won’t focus on the Abbott family.

The first Quiet Place film made over $350 million worldwide in 2018, before the sequel made a little over $297 million, not bad considering it was one of the first films to be released into the pandemic in 2021. With those numbers, it’s easy to see why Paramount see additional dollar signs in a spinoff.

Hopefully Sarnoski is able to do pretty much what he wants with the film. He proved with Pig that he’s able to mine deep emotion for unusual circumstances – perhaps he can do something similar here. There’s currently no release date for the film, nor any word on any actors, but expect news to trickle through relatively soon now that Sarnoski is on board.
