Adelaide indie pop/folk singer-songwriter Naomi Keyte makes her debut on Conversations with what she is decribing as a dose of indie magic by way of her spirited new single titled “Gillian”.
The song comes with promises of new beginnings and picturesque landscapes – for Naomi presumably and for us the listeners as well. It is set to usher in the release of her sophomore album and the long-awaited follow-up to her 2017 debut record Melaleuca.
“Gillian” is the second single from the upcoming album and it comes on the back of last year’s “Greenhill”. the song is simple and classic, driven by restrained driving guitar arrangements and piano riffs, over which Naomi’s warm vocals and harmonies take centre stage. Pulsing drum leads are introduced to offer the track some coastal expansiveness that listeners will appreciate.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Naomi says, “‘Gillian’ was written driving with the windows down and the music blaring. It captures the anticipation and promise of the new year and that special feeling of being in the right place at the right time. The song describes the vast spaciousness of the coast as well as the closeness of the inner city in summer”.
