Will Forte and Lana Condor have signed on to join John Cena in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Looney Tunes live-action/CGI hybrid Coyote vs. Acme. Cena agreed to star last month, with Dave Green directing from a screenplay by Samy Burch.
The film will be based on The New Yorker humour article of the same name by Ian Frazier. The film will revolve around Wile E. Coyote who, after ACME products fail him one too many times in his pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hire a billboard lawyer to sue the ACME Corporation.
The case pits Wile E. and his lawyer against the latter’s intimidating former boss, but a growing friendship between man and cartoon stokes their determination to win. Forte will play Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, while Cena will play the former boss. It’s unclear right now who Condor will play.
Chris DeFaria and James Gunn are producing, with the latter having worked with Cena on the acclaimed Peacemaker series for HBO. Forte already has ties with the Warner Animation Group, as he recently voiced Shaggy in 2020 film Scoob! He is currently starring in the MacGruber series for Peacock.
Condor is best known for leading popular YA Netflix franchise To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. She’s currently in post-production on Netflix TV series Boo, Bitch, while she’ll next be seen in HBO Max sci-fi romance Moonshot alongside Cole Sprouse. That arrives Thursday, March 31.
Coyote vs. Acme will be the fourth Looney Tunes movie to be a hybrid of live-action and animation, following Space Jam, Looney Tunes: Back In Action, and Space Jam: A New Legacy. There’s definitely a fun, postmodern idea at the core of Coyote vs. Acme. We’ll see how it works on the big screen.
