Shawn Levy To Direct Ryan Reynolds In ‘Deadpool 3’

Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds have already teamed up on two original films – comedy Free Guy and the just-released Netflix sci-fi film The Adam Project – and they’re set to collaborate again, this time for Reynolds’ best known character. Levy has signed on to helm Deadpool 3.

This will be the first Deadpool film produced by Marvel Studios after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox a few years ago. No plot details are available yet, although Reynolds hinted at a “batch of updates” arriving sooner rather than later.

Fans have been concerned about the future of their fourth-wall breaking anti-hero ever since Disney’s Fox acquisition – the MCU so far is not littered with swears, meta gags, or bone-crunching violence like the previous Deadpool films – but MCU president Kevin Feige has already assured fans that the third film will contains its R rating.

What that means for the MCU is unknown. But with the introduction of multiverses in some of the studio’s Disney+ shows, plus the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there will be plenty of alternate dimensions and universes for Deadpool to wreak havoc in – away from the other heroes if need be.

The last Deadpool film arrived in 2018 and grossed $785 million worldwide, so it’s obvious why the MCU was always going to produce another film, even if his presence doesn’t yet fit with the MCU. Too much easy money would be left on the table.

Getting Levy to work with Reynolds makes total sense, as the duo clearly enjoy working together. This will mark the third director in three Deadpool films after the first was helmed by Tim Miller and the sequel by David Leitch. The film currently doesn’t have a release date but there will no doubt be plenty of news dropping about the film over the next few years.

Reynolds can currently be seen starring in The Adam Project, and is currently working on Christmas-themed musical Spirited with Will Ferrell.
