London artist, producer and instrumentalist J P Rose has released a new single “One N Only” featuring LA-based vocalist ESME and London artist Tia Tamara Davis.
ESME and Tia’s R&B vocals are wrapped around J P’s lo-fi afroswing-laced production on “One N Only”, creating a slow jam with clear-eyed narration depicting the high points and low valleys of love. ESME’s airy abstain adds another layer of emotions and complicates the trio’s narrative.
Tia’s opening verse describes the end of a relationship, while J P’s 8-bar verse provides a new perspective on why their love has run its course. The beat integrates many aspects of afroswing with rolling rhythm and four-to-the-floor dancing rhythm, while other elements of the song are more electro-R&B/soul featuring Kaytranada-Esque synths, smooth keys, and deep bassline.
“One N Only” demonstrates J P’s versatility, showing his composing, producing, and singing skills, while also providing a sneak peek into the totally self-produced upcoming mixtape Lo-Soul. His smart poetry, soulful delivery, and lo-fi production bring it all together beautifully
J P Rose flexes his A&R muscles for the project, enlisting the help of artists from all over the world to help bring his visions to life, championing a fresh wave of UK artists with whom the music is as much embedded in hip-hop as well as soul as it is in new styles.
