‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ Sequel To Film Later This Year In Australia

It has been confirmed that the untitled sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2019) will begin filming later this year in Queensland, Australia.

This will be the fifth film in the MonsterVerse that has been produced by Legendary Entertainment. The first was Godzilla (2014), followed by Kong: Skull Island (2016), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and then Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).

The most recent production starred Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård and Brian Tyree Henry, and became America’s highest grossing film during the pandemic. By eventually making over $468 million worldwide, Godzilla Vs. Kong became the 8th highest grossing film of 2021.

The upcoming sequel will be filming in the Queensland city, Gold Coast, which is where the previous two MonsterVerse productions were also shot.

The Queensland government will be giving A$16 million (the equivalent of $11.8 million) to Legendary Entertainment to produce the film, as part of their Production Attractive Program.

The incentive strategy began in 2015, and since then has invested over $100 million towards films being produced in the state. The Godzilla vs. King sequel will be the 15th film shooting in Queensland due to the state program.

Producer of Godzilla vs. Kong, Eric McLeod, commented on the benefits of shooting in this region of Australia.

He stated that, “the highly skilled crews, first-rate facilities, and unique locations make filming in Australia a great experience. The support from both the federal government as well as Queensland has always been critical to our success in achieving a high level of filmmaking and an unparalleled audience experience“.

The release date and the director of the upcoming sequel have not yet been revealed, however, this will definitely be one for fans to be on the look out for.
