Sarah Paulson has been tapped to star in Dust, a horror-thriller in the works at Searchlight Pictures that was reportedly originally intended as a starring vehicle for Claire Foy.
Will Joines and Karrie Crouse are directing the film, which was penned by Crouse. It revolves around a mother who is haunted by her past and who encounters a threatening presence and takes extraordinary measures to protect her family. Foy had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues.
Like other recent Searchlight projects Fire Island (Disney+) and Good Luck To You, Leo Grande (Hulu), the project is being developed for a straight-to-streaming release. Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said in a statement: “Sarah is an extraordinary artist and we are thrilled to be working with her again.”
Paulson’s last film was excellent 2020 thriller Run, which was also released to Hulu. In the last few years she’s spent more time in TV, playing Linda Tripp in Impeachment: American Crime Story and continuing her frequent roles on American Horror Story.
She’ll soon begin production on Bruce Norris‘ film adaptation of his award-winning play Clybourne Park, which will be directed by Pam MacKinnon. She is also set to star in Bad Robot’s series adaptation of Glennon Doyle‘s memoir Untamed.
Principal photography on Dust will begin next month.
