Per Variety, Gabrielle Union and Eva Longoria are reportedly developing an LGBTQ+ wedding comedy film at Amazon. The film is currently untitled. Ricardo Gamboa is writing the screenplay
Union and Longoria will play the role of dueling mothers whose sons are tying the knot, except that the moms try to take over their sons’ celebration to make it into a version of their dream weddings. Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions and Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment will produce.
That’s all the plot details available right now, as the film is in the earliest stages of production. But it’s one of many LGBTQ+ project Union is involved in, as she’s also set to appear in Disney’s upcoming animated film Strange World, where she stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal as the parents of a gay teen, voiced by Jaboukie Young-White.
She will also soon be seen in The Inspection, where she plays the mother of a young gay man who joins the marines after being forced to live on the streets from the age of 16 when his birth mother abandons him, and is producing Billy Porter‘s Got To Be, which is inspired by her and husband Dwyane Wade‘s daughter asking to attend Miami Pride at the age of 10.
The fact that Union is involved in all these projects is no coincidence, as she’s long been an advocate for having more diverse LGBTQ+ stories on screen, previously stating: “A lot of folks are trying to erase whole chunks of our population and trying to reimagine reality without LGBTQIA folks. The reality is, we exist everywhere, every part of the globe.”
Hopefully there will be more details about the wedding comedy soon. Union is set to have a busy week, as The Inspection will be released on Friday while Strange World hits cinemas next week. Longoria can next be seen in coming-of-age romance Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which is currently in post-production.
