US producer, songwriter, and artist Metro Boomin, real name Leland Tyler Wayne, has sold a part of his entire publishing catalogue, of around $70 million, to Shamrock Capital
One of the most influential producers in rap and R&B, Metro Boomin is responsible for such songs as “Bad and Boujee” by Migos, “Mask Off” by Future, “Congratulations” by Post Malone, “Bank Account” by 21 Savage, “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1” by Kanye West, “Jumpman” by Drake and Future, “Heartless” by The Weeknd, and many more.
Two number 1 singles and ten top 10 singles are among the musician’s 99 overall appearances as a producer on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, while he also has a total of 46 Hot 100 entries in the chart as an artist.
The sale comes a few months after the release of his second album, HEROES & VILLAINS, which was released on December 2, 2022. The album became his second consecutive album (as an artist) to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Some of the greatest names in music were featured on the album, including Young Thug, Travis Scott, Future, Don Toliver, Chris Brown, A$AP Rocky, Gunna, and late Migos member Takeoff.
Shamrock was created in 1978 and has since grown to be a prominent, active buyer in the market for music catalogue investments. The company’s most famous investment was the 2020 purchase of Taylor Swift‘s Big Machine catalogue. With a $196 million debt fund to lend money to entertainment IP owners in 2021, Shamrock has also expanded into the lending market.
Along with other recent hip-hop purchases, such as Juice WRLD‘s sale to Opus Music Group for a nine figure sum, Metro Boomin’s deal has demonstrated that the genre is piquing significant investor interest.
