The newest single from Danish artist Alexander Grandjean, “Phoenix“, is the second release from his latest album, Holy Hills.
Crafted as an uplifting anthem, the song urges listeners to extend their support to those around them who may be feeling isolated or alone.
On “Phoenix”, Grandjean masterfully marries soul, pop, and folk elements by blending nylon guitars, rhythmic patterns, ethereal synthesizers, and his distinctive vocals. The result is a catchy soundscape, reminiscent of Sade’s soulful allure.
The concept behind Holy Hills was born amidst the rolling landscapes of Los Angeles and the towering highlands of Northern Italy. Grandjean visualizes the struggle to ascend from the forest’s darkness towards the radiant summit of a hill. His third solo album saw its release this past August.
A Denmark native, Alexander Grandjean has a rich background as a singer, producer, and songwriter. For a decade, he honed his skills by working with other artists in these capacities.
Though once embedded in the hustle and bustle of Copenhagen’s music scene, he found himself yearning for a slower pace and a deeper connection to authenticity.
This longing led him to a small fishing village, where he launched his own solo project, drawing comparisons to the likes of Bon Iver, Sade, and Frank Ocean.
His music, variously described as “indie folk” and “forest pop”, takes listeners on a serene journey over undulating hills, blending layers of indie vocals, lush reverbs, and dreamy synthesizers with the soft strums of nylon guitars and the raw energy of distorted bass.
As both producer and writer, Grandjean paints an atmospheric picture with his own vocals as well as those of other artists, crafting a soundscape that is dreamy, romantic, and tinged with melancholy. Blurring borders and interweaving genres, Grandjean’s project exudes both timelessness and modernity.
