Alex Garland is a man on the verge of huge success with his directorial debut Ex Machina gaining serious buzz and scripts like Never Let Me Go and Sunshine filling out his filmography. We’re about ready to like him even more now that he’s let out this little slice of awesome, it seems he and Danny Boyle have been thinking about doing a sequel to the epic zombie horror 28 Days Later and things are starting to get serious.
Garland had this to say about working with the Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle; “We’ve just started talking about it seriously. We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility. It’s more likely to be 28 MONTHS than 28 YEARS. 28 YEARS gives you one more place to go. 28 DECADES is probably taking the piss”.
Garland also commented about the idea of him producing the sequel rather than writing one. 28 Days Later blew me away, with its hyper-realistic techniques and intense horror, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo did do a follow up flick, 28 Months Later that just didn’t hit the same heights as the first movie, despite its interesting narrative ideas, so it would be great to see Boyle and Garland reunite for another zombie fest! Check out the trailer for the first film for a little zombie nostalgia.
