James Cameron Delays ‘Avatar’ Sequel Until Late 2017 | Film News

Remember that little movie James Cameron did back in 2009, you know the one with the $237 million budget? Yep, Avatar – that’s the one. Well it was looking as if fans were going to get a sequel in 2016 but Cameron has pushed back the release date to late 2017. Why you ask? Well, it seems the writing process is “very involved” and is just taking a lot to look for a release next year. Cameron also confirmed that he’s attempting to finish the script for all three planned sequels by the end of the month.

Here’s what Cameron has to say on the matter; “There’s a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don’t get when you’re making a stand-alone film. We’re writing three simultaneously. And we’ve done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We’re not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we’re doing all the design. So we’ve designed all the creatures and the environments”.

While one can’t deny that Avatar was huge in scale and displayed some wonderful, visually explosive CGI, it just didn’t blow me away. There was something really disappointing with the characters, I’m hoping Cameron can create something better with the sequels! What do you guys think, are you disappointed Avatar 2 has been pushed back?
