Amy Winehouse‘s untimely death in 2011 absolutely rocked the world of music and devastated her family, loved ones and fiercely loyal fans. Whispers of an Amy Winehouse documentary have been floating around for the last few years and when it finally became official, fans were hopeful that they’d get another glimpse of the real, talented musician they loved so much. Now, a new poster and official synopsis for the documentary have been released and it’s going to be an emotional affair.
Senna director Asif Kapadias is helming the project, titled Amy, with the poster boasting the tagline; “the girl behind the name“. Here’s the official synopsis; “Amy tells the incredible story of six-time Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse – in her own words. Featuring extensive unseen archive footage and previously unheard tracks, this strikingly modern, moving and vital film shines a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few can”.
While Winehouse’s personal demons were made public knowledge in the last few years of her life, it will be interesting and emotional to get a first hand look at her life and experiences. The film will come to UK theatres on July 3, 2015, with a US date to be confirmed.
