British actor Richard Johnson, who was a film, theatre and TV star, has died at the age of 87, from a short illness at the Royal Marsden hospital in Chelsea, his family has announced. Johnson’s career has been a long and successful one, including roles in films such as The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in 2008 and Khartoum alongside Charlton Heston and Laurence Olivier in 1966.

 

He was a founding member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and played several lead roles such as Mark Anthony in Caesar and Romeo. His TV credits include Doc Martin, Midsomer Murders and Silent Witness. Thoughts and condolences go to his wife, Lynn, whom he is survived by and had been married to for over a decade, and his four children.
