Chris Pratt got a little emotional listening to his Guardians Of The Galaxy director James Gunn’s plans for the upcoming sequel. He explained to Digital Spy, “his pitch and his idea legitimately put tears in my eyes it is so good. I cannot wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to see what he’s going to pull off with his second movie. It’s so big and so good”.
Chris Pratt is living every little boys dream, to become a superstar action hero. Having rose to fame playing the loveable and goofy Andy on NBC’s brilliant Parks and Recreation, he gained a loyal fan base that were eager to support his casting as Star-lord in Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) and thrilled by the unveiling of his transformed sexy bod for his breakout role.
It is hard not to be thrilled for Chris Pratt in anything he does. Genuinely funny, genuinely enthusiastic about what he’s doing and genuinely down to earth, Pratt is a charming mixture of childlike wonder, comical mischief and boy next door done good.
This authentic, excited pride comes across when discussing his projects, especially Star-lord because this character has such potential to inspire young fans, something he claims is very important to him. In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine he said, “that to me is the greatest part of all this… I love that Peter Quill is kind of a role model for kids who like to dream big and want to accomplish great things“.
He clearly connects with the concept of being a hero, saying “If I hadn’t become an actor, I probably would have become a policeman or a detective. My brother’s a cop, so I identify with characters that have a sense of duty“. It’s easy for actors to use the term ‘role model’ when discussing their characters, but Pratt follows through, visiting children’s hospital wards dressed as his superhero alter ego.
Facing rejection from studios for parts in previous big budget action movies, Pratt had found a comfortable niche in TV comedy, bringing hilarious dimensions to a character that was originally meant to be a short lived role. He won over the creators and his audience almost instantaneously, becoming one of the best things about the great Parks and Recreation throughout its run.
Thinking his dreams of acting in action movies was not going to be, he put his heart and soul into Andy and honed his comedic talent around the lovable and spontaneous dimwit routine that transferred to Guardian’s Peter Quill so well. It was after scoring a role in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty (2012), he realized that audiences could take him seriously within the action genre and gave it one last fateful shot auditioning for Guardians.
With Jurassic World coming to our screens next week and Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 due for release in May next year, Pratt is officially a fully fledged action hero. He has the brawn, the humor and the vital juxtaposition between cocky charm and authentic childlike vulnerability that gives his acting the complexity a true action hero needs and ultimately makes him easy to relate to for fans spanning age and gender.
