Last night’s BET Awards was more than just an event. It was a celebration of R&B and Hip Hop’s most classic eras. It kicked off with an epic Bad Boy Records reunion which saw the likes of Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans and not forgetting P. Diddy, who all took to the stage to take us back in time. It continued on that same note with the Smokey Robinson tribute and the cameo from Pattie LaBelle which gave us all a nostalgic feeling of the 90’s.
But it is undeniable that 25 years later, it is still all about Miss Janet Jackson as she won the ‘BET Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award’. Singers Ciara, Tinashe and Jason Derulo paid tribute to the music legend by performing hits from her old school albums. Jackson did not perform, but accepted her award with both her parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson applauding her from the audience. Janet will kick off her ‘Unbreakable’ World Tour on August 31 and release her first album in seven years, this Autumn.
