The DC universe‘s first standalone Wonder Woman movie is to take place during World War I, as the studio shifts focus from the Braveheart-esque origin story that previous director Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones) wanted to tell. According to Variety, sources say that Warner Bros. wanted to create a character driven narrative which was light on action leading to MacLaren leaving the production in April.
Now Heroic Hollywood has reported that Wonder Woman will be set during the first World War with the story jumping forward into more modern times for the second half. If true, this would make Gal Gadot‘s (Fast & Furious) super heroine one of the oldest heroes within DC‘s franchise, 200 years old in fact, if additional rumours surrounding her appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice are to be believed.
Heroic Hollywood also revealed that Producer Deborah Snyder confirmed that filming will begin this November in London with Director Patty Jenkins (Monster) at the helm. Wonder Woman will make her on-screen debut first however when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is released on March 25 2016.
