And they did it with a simple joke.
A ton of great things happened at the Golden Globes last night, we were given the comedic duo we didn’t know we needed in Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. Maybe, they can host … let’s say, next years Golden Globes? *hint, hint* Hollywood Foreign Press. Their chemistry is undeniable, you have to agree!
Also, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer hung out publicly. So, all was basically right with the world for a few hours. Another highlight was when the Golden Globes tried to play Taraji P. Henson off the stage, to which she epically responded; “I’ve waited 20 years for this, don’t tell me to wrap it up,” Henson said, totally commanding that stage. “You gon’ wait!” You go, girl.
But on a more serious note, many stars also used the occasion to spread awareness and shed some light on important issues. Leonardo DiCaprio made a political statement by addressing indigenous communities around the world, in his inspirational speech. “It is time that we recognize your history, and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interest and people that are out there to exploit them. It is time that we heard your voice and protected this planet for future generations”.
Eva Longoria and America Ferrera, also used their screen time to highlight an important issue. You might remember when the Golden Globe nominees were announced last month, that whoever was running the award show’s Twitter account messed up – big time. They mixed up two entirely different actresses, America Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez, who star in two different shows.
While the Hollywood Foreign Press, was quick to apologise and correct their mistake, the public remained unconvinced – because it looked a lot casual racism. So, when Longoria and Ferrera took the stage last night to present the award for Best Actor in a TV drama, they decided to call out Hollywood racism and bring attention to the fact that people, repeatedly, get them mixed up with other Latina actresses.
‘Hi I’m Eva Longoria and not Eva Mendes,’ Longoria began, and Ferrera continued by saying: ‘And hi, I’m America Ferrera and not Gina Rodriguez’”. Watch the full clip below:
