Throughout his life, British legend David Bowie had several movie appearances alongside his stage characters, including the Goblin King in Labyrinth and Tesla in The Prestige. Now, it seems the Starman could have appeared in Marvel‘s upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy 2, a concept that is devastatingly impossible now.
The movie’s director James Gunn turned to Facebook to pay a heartfelt tribute to the late Bowie, who tragically died aged 69 10 January from an 18 month battle with cancer. He confirmed the possibility by stating: “Just a very short while ago Kevin Feige and I were talking about a cameo role in Guardians Vol. 2, and he brought up Bowie’s name. I told him nothing in the world would make me happier.”
He continued, revealing that despite speculation of Bowie’s ill health, the cameo could have potentially happened: “We heard back that he was okay and it could potentially happen. Who knows what that was about?” Although a physical apperance of Bowie can no longer happen, we will always have Moonage Daydream from the Ziggy Stardust album which featured in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film.
Thank you David Bowie for existing during my lifetime, and for introducing the world to your wonderful creations and tonnes of inspiration that will continue to influence the music industry for years to come. There’s a new Starman waiting in the sky, farewell. See how the world has reacted to Bowie’s death below:
