After Sony announced that they would be remaking Joe Johnston‘s much loved 1995 fantasy adventure film Jumanji, pressure has been placed upon them to find a worthy director.
This morning, Sony announced that Jake Kasdan is to be the frontrunner for the new movie. His previous credits include R-Rated comedies such as Bad Teacher and Sex Tape, but also more family-friendly television series such as New Girl and Freaks and Geeks.
It may seem like an interesting choice due to his often more adult screen credits – however his experience with comedy could suit a fresh adaptation of the classic. The screenplay for the remake has been penned by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, based on the initial draft by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Jumanji is set for a 2016 Christmas Day release.
