Rumour has it that the How I Met Your Mother star is in talks with Netflix about taking on the role of Count Olaf, the main baddie in the TV adaptation of the popular children’s books, A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
The series was picked up for 13 episodes by Netflix back in November 2014 in association with Paramount Television, with executive producers Barry Sonnenfeld (Men In Black) and Daniel Handler, better know by his pen name Lemony Snicket, the author of the books. Mark Hudis (That ’70’s Show, True Blood) was also on-board as the series’ showrunner but has now exited the project for unknown reasons and Netflix is yet to comment on the departure.
The best-selling series of books, narrated by Lemony Snicket, follows the story of three orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire as they try to unravel the mysteries surrounding their parents pasts, all while trying to escape the evil clutches of the nefarious Count Olaf (portrayed by Jim Carrey in the 2004 film version) as he tries to dispose of the orphans and get his hands on their fortune.
Netflix released a promisingly creepy teaser trailer last year (although they later denied having a hand in it, which no-one seems to really believe) drumming up excitement for the upcoming series among fans of the books. A release date for the show has yet to be announced.
