According to the latest reports Andrew Haigh, director of the critically-acclaimed 45 Years, will be taking on directorial duties for an Alexander McQueen biopic. Joining him on the project will be playwright Chris Urch, who will reportedly be using Andrew Wilson‘s biography on McQueen as a main source. The project is being produced by Pathé and while there is no official word on who will be starring as McQueen, he will make for an undoubtedly fascinating watch.
Alexander McQueen was born in Lewisham, London. Born into a working class family, McQueen won an apprenticeship on Saville Row; a position from which he would rise through the ranks of haute couture. He became head designer at Givenchy and then launched his own brand in 2004. His own eponymous brand was an outfitter to celebrities and royalty and his untimely death in 2010 marked a tragic loss for the fashion industry; in many ways it is a loss they still mourn. McQueen was openly gay and his failed relationships were often the talk of the press, yet his greatest relationship was with his mother, Joyce, who died 9 days before he committed suicide on February 11, 2010.
