Following a long legal battle which amassed thousands of supporters and popularised “#FreeKesha“, Kesha has been denied release from her record label, Sony. The sought-for injunction arose due to sexual abuse allegations aimed at producer Lukasz Gottwald, a.k.a. Dr Luke.
According to NY Daily News, Judge Shirley Kornreich said that “she didn’t think the information provided by Kesha’s lawyers was detailed enough to keep her civil rights, sexual harassment and discrimination claims alive”.
Kesha has been given the opportunity to work with another producer, but Kesha’s lawyer argued “that Sony’s promise was ‘illusory’ because even if the recordings were made, the record company wouldn’t promote them” as the singer would still be with Sony who work with – and make more money from – Dr Luke.
The singer has yet to release a statement, but her distress was evident through tears and supporters expressed their indignation.
